HISTORY: Mrs Grieve tells that 'the plant chopped and boiled in lard makes a fine green cooling ointment, good for pile sand sores, and cutaneous diseases.' Culpepper calls it a 'fine, soft, pleasing herb, under the dominion of the Moon. ...it is effectual for all imposturmes and swellings whatsoever; for all scabs, redness in the face, wheals, pushes, itch..' Potters Herbal tells us that Chickweed is used for eczema, psoriasis, ulcers and boils and used to be used as a salad herb as a source of Vitamin C.
