Description
Organic Comfrey Cream is prepared using comfrey (Symphytum), a plant with a long history of traditional topical use. Comfrey has historically been valued for its affinity with tissues, particularly where support for comfort, flexibility and recovery was desired.
Applied externally, comfrey has traditionally been included in creams, oils and poultices as part of herbal skin-care routines. Its use reflects centuries of herbal knowledge rather than modern medical treatment.
NOTE: For regulatory reasons, product pages describe ingredients and traditional context only. Information on traditional benefits, historical uses and research can be found on the Traditional Use & Research page.
Traditional Topical Use
In traditional herbal practice, comfrey was selected for external application where tissues felt overworked, strained or in need of care. It was commonly used in balms and creams applied to the skin as part of massage and supportive routines.
The herb is traditionally associated with the maintenance of skin integrity and comfort when applied externally.
History
Comfrey has been used in herbal traditions since ancient times and was known historically by names such as “knitbone,” reflecting its traditional association with bringing together tissues. The name Symphytum derives from the Greek word meaning “to unite”.
Herbalists historically viewed plants as working synergistically, valuing the whole herb rather than isolated constituents. Comfrey featured prominently in traditional European herbalism and was widely used in topical preparations.
Scientific Interest
Scientific interest in comfrey has focused on its topical use and naturally occurring plant constituents, including allantoin, which has been studied for its role in skin conditioning and tissue renewal.
Modern studies have examined comfrey preparations in relation to topical comfort and mobility. Research reflects interest in traditional external use rather than internal consumption.

Odette Volpeliere-Pierrot –
Comfrey Cream
I wish to say just how wonderful your comfrey cream is. I use every day as a face cream. It sinks right in, does not leave the skin oily or greasy and I truly believe that it strengthens the connective tissue at a cellular level. If for any reason, namely that I have none left and have to use something else, then after a few days I notice a difference, which is not a good one. I also use it for grazes and any skin irritations. It appears to work for everything!
